WHAT ARE ENVIRONMENTAL GRAPHICS?

Environmental graphics comprises many aspects of design, including interior, architectural, landscape and industrial design within a space. You’ll often find elements like wall murals and door and window graphics seamlessly integrated in a space that features a more traditionally branded corporate sign or wayfinding. Elements can also include architectural signs, custom wallpaper, elevator wrap or other signage component that helps define the space.

WHEN DID ALL THIS COME ABOUT?

The rise of modern architecture principles and the importance of branding within the marketing world both created the need for environmental graphic design. If you want a more in-depth read, Craig Berger did a great job explaining this in his article The Need for Environmental Graphic Design.

WHAT TYPES OF CLIENTS SHOULD CONSIDER ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN?

Any (and all clients) who want to upgrade the branding in their space should consider environmental graphics. It’s a much more modern approach to styling a space and provides a polished depth of character beyond that of a standard sign. We have used this approach for health care, financial, churches, and higher education clients with great success.

WHAT SPACES WORK BEST?

Environmental graphic design works well in large spaces to create a big first impression. These include your entrance, lobby, waiting area, atrium or other common spaces. In a health care setting, this may also include parking garages, walkways/hallways or building exteriors that visitors pass prior to entering the main areas of your facilities.

Environmental GraphicsWHAT IS A SIGN COMPANY’S ROLE IN THE PROCESS?

At Pensacola Sign, our role certainly varies by project. In a new build or extensive remodel, we work seamlessly with your chosen architect, builder and/or interior designer. We lend our expertise and help create a plan on how to blend signage and environmental graphics elements into the space. Then we complete design, fabrication, and installation according to the master calendar.

In contrast, our process is different for an existing business is looking to refresh a space. For that type of project, we collaborate with the client and lead the process from start to finish. We typically have an in-depth consultation before providing a recommendation and related estimate. Once approved, we take the project through all remaining steps through installation.

DO THE PROJECTS LAST?

Yes! An experienced environmental graphics team will know the proper installation techniques. They will also be able to help you select high-quality, durable materials for a longer life. Our reputation at Pensacola Sign is built on making certain our clients are satisfied and our projects stand the test of time.
